Following up on our recent post on yet more flooding issues on the Quarterlands Road, the stance of the LCC Council that further development in the area is not problematic is causing residents a measure of anxiety.
The two videos below were taken on a day when rainfall wasn’t particularly heavy, and show a racing River Lagan in danger of breaching its banks again. As we’ve reported before many times, building work that has already been completed in the area has impact on the terrain so that residents who never experienced flooding before have found their homes in the pathway of water that has to go somewhere.
As was highlighted in a recent BBC News report, the sewage and storm overflow systems are one and the same, leading to the risk of sewage backing up into houses and businesses when the capacity of the system is overwhelmed by heavy rainfall, adding another layer to residents’ genuine concerns about the frequent flooding incidences.
