This is the story of Quarterlands Road, Drumbeg, it has rained nearly everyday, the ground is sodden and cannot take up any more water, yet we have to fight for our biodiversity. We have to stop the over development of this area a part of Lagan Valley Regional Park where visitors can enjoy the open green fields, the canal and river.
Quarterlands Road on the East Side the land stands higher than the road and surrounding land and properties, the bits of unbuilt land help hold the water back thus protecting the lower lying land and properties.
At the entrance to the proposed development beside No 66 Quarterlands Road, note the green grassy area helps to absorb the worst of the flooding held back by the hedgerows and heavy bushes and mature trees, protecting the roadway and properties facing No66 Quarterlands Road.
We come to Nos 58 and 56 Quarterlands Road, these two properties are adjacent to the proposed development, note in the photograph the flooding rainwater which is emanating off the higher ground behind these two properties because they have tarmac pathways, outbuildings behind their bungalows causing the rainwater to run off and down onto Quarterlands Road causing the Quarterlands Road to be flooded from one side to the other endangering road users and flooding to the rear gardens in Hambleden Park.
So if we build on our green spaces we can expect a lot more of below.
This is our choice for the future, build large houses on green fields, suffer floods, devastation and deprivation because we have not protected out biodiversity.
This is the beginning of
The End
