Here are a few of the reasons people have given for signing the petition.
As a group we decided very early not to try to create a media storm. We prefer to pursue the problems through ‘channels’ This has been a hard task and we are unutterably disappointed in the public bodies and the process. However our neighbours and local people concerned with the park are good and to remind them and us why we are fighting here are some of the reasons they gave for signing our petition. Biodiversity is vital to maintaining the balance within our delicate and already under stress, local nature. Too many new developments on green field sights already. Redevelop the neglected inner city and our struggling town centres!
Building places to live for people is important, however not where we have green spaces and biodiversity. Please let’s also study and research where to build underground since the surface of the earth is arid and hot in some areas. Let’s also build ships and boats since there is flooding. Please consider. Thank You.
Not nearly enough being done by the powers that be to protect the environment. No sense just greed at the cost of the natural world. Hopefully enough signatures get on here to make them stop x
We need these areas for our physical and mental health.
This threatens one of Belfast cherished natural places
There are plenty of disused buildings and non-environmentally sensitive areas that could be redeveloped into housing instead of building on important ecological sites.
This is one the most important decisions I have made, to help protect our green spaces, I don’t want to live in a brick jungle, I moved to a rural area to live in green spaces, developers are taking away the grass, hedgerows, and trees and the Barn Owls, bats, hedgehogs (just recovering after been driven many years ago} from one of their sites, now the site they moved to is going to be tarmac and cement with solid fences so nothing can move, gone will be the grass, hedgerows and trees. Then the creatures who relied on this site disappear because their habitat will be destroyed, the natural cycle is destroyed, carbon that has been stored in the grasslands, bushes, shrubs, hedgerows (over 100years old) this will be released back into the atmosphere, and will add to global warming.
A city the size of Belfast needs to preserve its green spaces especially around the Lagan which is a major source of biodiversity and recreation for the people of the city.
I call on the u k government to stop these developers bricking over our precious places. this place esp is so important. stop them
Not only is this supposed to be a protected area but this type of housing is not even needed!! There are enough five bedroom mansion houses in the area going for £750,000+
The community and environment is not considered. All they want is to make as big a profit as possible and then on to the next money making scheme.
Please do the right thing and stop this
The park needs protecting, like many beautiful natural things it needs protecting from greed caused destruction
Biodiversity is precious and once it’s gone it’s gone. This park needs to be protected.
Profits are being made from the destruction of our wild spaces and species are being harmed and lost. All just so greedy developers can make money
The damage done deliberately to our biodiversity and eco-systems is totally unacceptable and sabotages our very existence on this planet … as well as all other life forms whether plant or animal. We need to protect and not destroy our precious environment.
We need our green spaces for preserving our native wildlife and plants. It’s also vital for people’s mental health to provide a healthy place to spend time in. If this is tarmacked over, we and future generations will lose out on this, and this will in turn, have a bad effect on the financial stability of our region.
Planning laws here in NI do not protect wildlife & do not encourage biodiversity. Planning here in NI only supports developers, unlike in other jurisdictions across these islands. Stop the destruction of our green spaces now!
