This map on the ARCGIS website shows the locations where blue-green algae is present in Northern Ireland waterways. Currently this amounts to 290 reports of water polluted across the country. Blue-green algae comes with health risks. It can be harmful to humans and toxic to livestock, pets and fish, and there are no quick and easy fixes. One of the contributing causes is sewage that is heavily diluted by storm water when there is heavy rain and overflow is released into waterways.
Lack of capacity has been confirmed by NI Water in the proposed development area.
